Choosing a bottle nipple

How to decide what kind of nipple to use?  The majority of pumps you purchase come with at least one bottle with cap and nipple included.  If you choose to use the one that comes with the pump and your baby takes it, great!   But you may choose to use a different type of bottle or nipple than the one you get with your pump. We carry Ameda, Medela, and Avent bottles. They are all polycarbonate plastic which is boilable, dishwasher, and microwave safe.

Standard sized bottles

Note that if you are using a standard sized bottle (either Medela or Ameda), the Medela bottles come with nipples making them a more convenient purchase. The Ameda bottles do not come with nipples so you will have to buy them. If you need to buy a nipple or chose to use a different nipple than the one that comes with the Medela bottle, standard sized bottle and nipples are easy to mix and match.   If you need to purchase extra nipples, Nuk, orthodontic style silicone nipples are very popular for use with either the Medela  or Ameda bottles.

Avent System

This feeding system is all the rage.  If you are using the Avent system, see Avent Accessories for nipple specifications . There are a number of different nipples to choose from, based on the age of the baby.  You will have to use Avent nipples with Avent bottles- they have a wide mouth and standard size nipples will not fit.
